Speed Up Menu Display - 2 Techniques to Make Menus Appear Quickly

Windows XP has a lot of menus that you can utilize. One of them is the start menu. The start menu is able to display shortcuts to programs installed on your computer and to other places on the system including My Network Places. If you think that your computer is performing a little slower, then you have to do things to make it run faster. One of the things that you can do to speed up your computer is to speed up menu display.

When you speed up menu display, your computer will display the menu at lightning speed. If you do not want delays on looking for a menu, you should do this. There are two techniques that you can use to speed up menu display. Here is a guide to the two techniques.

First Technique: Changing the Visual Settings

On Windows XP, menus and other elements on the system is displayed with a good visual to make the best appearance. But these visuals slow down your computer?s performance, and if you are irritated by a slow display of menus, you can do this technique. Right click on My Computer, select Properties and choose the Advanced Tab. On the Advanced Tab, click the settings button. On the Settings Window, you will see a list of visual effects currently used by your system. Uncheck the ?Fade or slide menus into view? so that menus can be displayed faster.

Second Technique: Changing the Menu Show Delay

Windows XP implements a delay for showing menu by default. If you want to hasten the display of menus, click the Start menu; choose run and type ?regedit?. On the Registry Editor window, choose HKEY_CURRENT_USER, click Control Panel and choose Desktop. Find the MenuShowDelay on the list at right and right click on it. Choose modify, and change the data value. The data value is set to 400 by default. You can change it to zero, which is the fastest setting but it might cause problems. You can try using a number from 150 to 200 for best results.
