The CHKDSK utility showing bad sectors: The utility mentioned is a disk checking utility that comes with the operating system. It is used to detect whether all the data in the hard drive is readable. There is usually some allowance for bad sectors but if there are a large percentage of bad sectors it may mean that the hard disk is giving in. This is especially so if the bad sectors are growing. The computer taking quite a while to boot: When the computer takes unusually long to boot, it means that the hard drive has got too many demands on it i.e. it is working hard to try and meet the demands put on it. This may also be because the hard drive is experiencing some read/write failures. In this case, once the computer is fully booted, try and salvage/backup your information as first as possible and have your hard disk drive checked by a professional IT technician.
